Sarnath Tour and Dev Deepawali celebrations
Morning: Breakfast at the hotel.
Then visit Sarnath, the hallowed spot where Lord Buddha preached His first sermon after Enlightenment in the deer
park. It contains the most impressive remains as well as a modem temple. Among the many fascinating relics, the
Dharmarajika Stupa, Chaukhandi Stupa & Dhamekh Stupa are outstanding. There is a newly-built, 80 feet Lord
Buddha statue. There are also the remains of a monastery and the beautifully-polished Lion Capital of Ashoka.
Later, return to Varanasi for lunch.
After lunch and some rest, start by 4:45 pm to see the famous ritual – Dev Deepawali Ganga aarti. On the occasion
of Kartik Purnima celebrated in Varanasi, on the banks of the river Ganga, the ghats of Varanasi come alive with
thousands of diyas (earthen lamps). Dev Deepawali, celebrated 15 days after Diwali, is a tribute to the river Ganga by
the people of Varanasi. Dev Deepawali is held on the full moon day in the month of Kartik (also known as Kartik
Purnima) and is observed with great fanfare and feasts. You will have your own festive motorboat ride on the
occasion of Dev Deepawali as the whole city is immersed in the light of earthen lamps. A boat ride gives you a full
view and a mind-blowing experience of amazing scenes of cities and monuments that are decorated on Dev
Deepawali on both banks of the river.
